Welcome to the 2nd Edition of METTLE, the Annual TECHNO-MANAGEMENT  Fest of Department of Mining Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi. Scheduled to be held from 5th Oct to 7th Oct this year, it will challenge those brain cells in a  plethora of events and competitions. The events have been  designed to channelize the immense talent and ingenuity of the students towards problems. To help build a coherent and strong rapport between employers and  students. To provide them with a platform in becoming the  future stalwarts in the realm of Earth Resource Engineering.

Department of Mining Engineering
IIT(BHU) Varanasi

The Department of Mining Engineering, the oldest Mining Engineering Department in the country, came into existence in 1923. The first Ph.D. degree in Mining Engineering in the country was awarded from this department in the year 1964. This lead was further strengthened by introducing the First Post-Graduate course in 1966.

The Department of Mining Engineering, BHU in fact was one of the first few departments in the country to receive UGC Assistance under COSIST and SAP Programme in 1984. Subsequently, the Department was upgraded as a Centre of Advanced Study in the area of Rock Mechanics and Ground Control in 1990.

The dedicated students and the scholarly faculty members of this prestigious department share a healthy relationship and constitute the MINING SOCIETY. The members regularly indulge themselves in activities which improve the personality of the pupils and fructify them. Activities like seminars, group discussions, presentations, educational visits help the students hone their technical skills and knowledge.

Minds are like parachutes; they only function when they are open. We at IIT (BHU) Varanasi, believe that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic; keeping this in our minds we have planned a 3-day fest as a techno-management event, METTLE 2012. This will provide the scientists and technicians of tomorrow the tool to break their mental cages and picture the freedom. Here, we will stage the innovators as the mentors of the modern society looking forth to live a smart future.
